Data Analysis

Mrs. Swinnerton's Kindergarten Class

The child collects and organizes, with assistance, data based on first hand information

Collects, with assistance, first hand information

  • With each food group, discuss which choices the students like best
  • When voting for a choice, have the students line up to vote for each choice. Compare the size of each line-up to determine the majority.
  • Constructs, with assistance, a concrete/object graph, using 1:1 correspondence

  • Draw a picture of their favorite food from each group, and glue it to the appropriate location on a graph.
  • When given an assortment of colors, have the students graph jellybeans into the appropriate locations on a graph.
  • After graphing his jellybeans, Liam found that yellow had the most. He also realized that blue had the least, because there were no blue jellybeans.

In Vivian's graph, yellow also had the most. She wondered why she had 0 blue or green jellybeans.

Compares data in two categories, using such words as more, less, the same

  • Using the above, stop frequently during the building of the graph to compare- how many items are in this column? How about this one? Which one has more? Less?
