
Children are fascinated with money and there are many fun and interesting ways to teach children about money. I begin by having them journal about what they already know about money. Here are some student examples of what they know.

Patrick knows that you can find money. He know that he had a King George penny and that it is special. He knows that you can work for money and that you can buy things with it. |

Alanna knows that you can spend money on toys and candies and food. She knows about dimes. The other thing that she likes is that you can earn money. |
We then begin to look at the details of the coins. What pictures they have on them, what numbers, what they think the numbers mean. After we have decided what the value of the coins are I provide a variety of methods to practice using money.
