CANDY ACTIVITIES

OBJECTIVES: Counting, Sorting

MATERIALS:   small package of coloured candies

                         Crayons (R)

                               Book, M and M Counting Book (R)

                         Graph glued in Math Journal

                               Math Journal (R)

A.       Read the book with your "Special Person".  Discuss any interesting parts.  Do you have a favourite picture?  

B.        Discuss:  How many candies do you think are in the box?  (Guess and record your guess on the next empty page in your Math Journal).  How could you check?  How many are in the box?  (Record this number too.)

C.       Ask your child to sort the candies according to colour:

How many different colours are there?

How many red (yellow, pink, etc.) ones are there?

Which colour has the most?  the least?

D.       Use the graph that is glued in your Math Journal to show how many of each colour of candies you found.  Draw circles or trace each candy in colour rows. 

E.       Record the name of this Math Pack and today’s date on the top of the page in your Math Journal.
