Measurement – capacity Materials:
Little Jack and Jill booklet (R)
Plastic glass from your cupboard (keep)
Water from your sink (keep)
Portion cup (R)
Film canister (R) Pill
bottle (R) Jack
and Jill record sheet in Math Journal (R) A.
Read the nursery rhyme. Reread it several times, especially if your child is
unfamiliar with it. If your
child is able, encourage him/her to recite it from memory. B.
Suggest that Jack might need a drink of
water after his walk u and his tumble down the hill.
Instead of simply filling the cup with water, use the three
measuring tools (the portion cup, the film canister and the pill bottle.)
Record your findings on the chart that is glued in your Math
Journal. If you were to repeat this experiment, would you et the same numbers? Check. C.
Optional:
Let’s try an experiment with vinegar and baking soda. Put two portion
cups of vinegar into the cup and then put in 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
Watch what happens. Record
your child’s responses in his/her Journal.
Try this experiment again but this time increase the amount of
vinegar. What happens?
This time increase the amount of baking soda. What happens? |
