Patterning

 

Materials 

  • pocket chart

  • red and white candy cane shapes

  • red and white headings

What To Do

  • The children will create a pattern for their partner to duplicate.  

  • The first partner uses the red and white headings to describe the pattern while the second partner repeats that pattern with the candy canes.

  • The partners switch roles and repeat the process.

 

This activity addresses the following outcomes from the Kindergarten Program Statement:

  • Sorts objects using a single attribute (color)

  • recognizes and reproduces a pattern using manipulatives

  • creates a pattern using manipulatives
